ABOUT
My name is Audrey DeFord -- Christ-follower, Wife, Momma, Artist, Illustrator.
I'm a southern girl born and raised in the wide open spaces of the Texas flatlands. I married a guy named Sam. Together we have a cuddly French Bulldog named Shortstack, twelve rambunctious backyard hens, two little girls named Flora Evangeline & Freya Elliot, and a third baby on the way.
SOME HISTORY
If you asked kid Audrey what she wanted to be when she grew up, she would have shared a rather large (and quite unrealistic) laundry list of aspirations. Top on that list was artist.
As the years started to mount up, I mourned losing the wonder that associates itself with childhood. I quickly found that making things helped me continue viewing life through kid lenses. You can't consider life a big bore and still manage to make lovely things.
I studied at the University of North Texas in Denton with a concentration in drawing/painting and watercolor painting. Then I met Sam, got married, and never returned to finish out my senior year. I guess I should add "college dropout" to that fancy list up top. You can find my work in private collections across the United States and parts of Europe and Australia, but none of that really matters. Recent trips to Vietnam and Sudan have stirred up inspiration and fresh passion for discovering new cultures and people groups. These experiences along with bright colors, love for people, and delight in God's Word (because it's where I get to know him!) largely influence my body of work. Whether we want it to or not, art teaches. I pray my art will teach true things to those who view it.
THE BLOG
I started a blog back in 2008 to document a year spent living overseas in Vienna, Austria. Since then, I have traveled through Europe, Asia, and Africa, gotten married, bought a home, started a business, and had 2 kids. It has been quite a ride! We have settled down in an old house in Texas but hope to continue traveling. Getting out of our backyard always blows our perspectives wide open. My blog is on hold right now as I spend time cultivating tiny humans, but eventually I'll get back to writing on life, art, and thoughts on Jesus and his book. In the meantime, poke around the website or shoot me an email. I'd love to hear from you.
Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.
